Ecommerce for Business Central

Adobe Commerce + i95Dev Connect

The most comprehensive commerce platform in the catalogue connected to Business Central by a connector covering company accounts, credit limits, payment terms and split shipments. The pricing logic lives in the platform, not in the ERP. It is also the most expensive and longest implementation in the catalogue.

What the solution is

Adobe Commerce, which most people still call Magento, is the most comprehensive of the commerce platforms in the catalogue. It exists both as Magento Open Source, which is free but has to be hosted and maintained, and as Adobe Commerce, where the B2B module with company accounts, quotes and requisition lists is part of the licence.

The integration to Business Central in this catalogue is i95Dev Connect, available both on Microsoft AppSource and on Adobe's own marketplace. Several other routes from Magento to Business Central exist, and we have chosen i95Dev as the most widely used one, but the list of alternatives at the bottom of this page is long and real.

How the integration works

i95Dev Connect consists of a module in Magento and an extension for Business Central, and it synchronises customers, orders, stock, items and prices continuously. The vendor stresses that the connector reaches further than a generic integration tool, and they name specifically company accounts, quotes, multi-warehouse inventory, credit limits, payment terms, paying open entries, and split shipments and invoices.

That list is worth reading slowly, because it answers precisely the three gaps Microsoft's Shopify connector has. If quote management and credit handling are driving your choice, this is where in the catalogue they are covered in a platform of this size.

The vendor's own website lists the supported versions: Business Central on-premises from BC 14 to BC 22 and Business Central online from BC 16 to BC 25. If you run an on-premises version older than BC 14, it is not on the list, and that should be confirmed directly with the vendor.

Prices, discounts and agreements

Prices and price lists are synchronised from Business Central, and credit limits and payment terms come along. The agreed price for a company account can therefore come from the ERP, which is what a B2B buyer asks about first.

Campaigns and bundles, by contrast, belong in Magento. The platform has one of the market's strongest campaign engines with catalogue price rules, cart rules and bundle products, and that is one of the main reasons to choose it. That is why the solution carries the label for logic set up in two places, and why the division of labour becomes the most important decision in the project.

The scaling trap of a transferred price matrix applies. With many thousand company accounts times many thousand items, someone has to keep those rows fresh, and it is worth asking for a figure on how long a full synchronisation takes at your size.

The order and the finance function

The order is created as a sales order in Business Central. Split shipments and split invoices are named as part of the connector, and that is one of the most overlooked items in a tender, because it only becomes expensive once the exceptions start arriving.

Because there is an integration layer with a queue, there is a place where an order can sit and wait. Agree who monitors the queue and what the notification triggers. With a platform of this size, order volume is typically high enough that an unnoticed failure becomes expensive within hours.

VAT is decided by Magento on open selling, and an external tax engine is the ordinary choice in this class. Reconciling the payment provider's settlement is a separate job with real work every month.

Who the solution fits

The solution fits a larger company with both consumer and business selling, a complex assortment, several countries and an organisation that can carry a project of six to twelve months. If you need all of it, it exists here.

It also fits if you want to own the frontend fully and have an agency or an internal team for it. There is no other solution in the catalogue with a larger ecosystem of developers and extensions.

The solution does not fit a smaller company. Licence, implementation and ongoing maintenance all sit at the top of the catalogue, and a Magento installation nobody looks after is a security risk and not merely an expensive one.

What to settle before you decide

Count three items, not one. The Adobe Commerce licence is revenue-dependent, hosting is a separate item if you are not on Adobe's cloud, and i95Dev Connect is a subscription on top. Our bands are estimates with low confidence, and they sit high because all three items do.

Settle the division of labour between Magento's campaign engine and Business Central's price setup, and write it down. That is the one question where a wrong answer costs the most in this solution.

Ask for a named European reference customer on the Magento and Business Central combination specifically. i95Dev is an Indian and American house, and the European reference is the one that says something about how a project runs in your time zone.
