Ecommerce for Business Central

Visualsoft + Patchworks integration

British platform where the vendor also delivers the marketing work and is often paid by results. The integration to Business Central is run by Patchworks, a British integration platform. We have not been able to document the connector's mechanics, and the solution carries low confidence.

What the solution is

Visualsoft is a British commerce platform with a business model unlike any other in the catalogue. The vendor delivers not only the platform but also the design, the marketing work and the ongoing optimisation, and some of the agreements are paid by results rather than as a fixed licence.

That is worth understanding before comparing. If you buy Visualsoft you are buying a partnership rather than a piece of software, and the figures the catalogue shows as licence and implementation fit this model less well than the others.

The integration to Business Central is run by Patchworks, a British integration platform connecting commerce platforms with ERP, warehousing and logistics. Patchworks is an iPaaS with prebuilt connectors rather than a tool the integration has to be built in.

How the integration works

We have not been able to find a technical description of the Visualsoft to Business Central flow specifically. Patchworks has documented connectors to many systems, but the link between those two is not something we have been able to verify.

The directions, the interval and the error handling therefore stand as not stated in the table below. An iPaaS of this type normally has a monitoring view and retry, and it is plausible that this applies here too, but plausible is not the same as documented.

There are three parties in the setup: Visualsoft, Patchworks and your Business Central partner. That is one more than most solutions in the catalogue, and it is the most important practical fact. The division of responsibility has to be written down before anything goes into production.

Prices, discounts and agreements

The pricing logic lives in Visualsoft. We have found no documentation that agreed prices are fetched from Business Central, and the solution therefore carries the label for logic set up in two places.

The platform's centre of gravity is consumer selling, and for consumer selling with one price list that is the expected division of labour and of no practical significance.

If you have business selling with agreed prices, this is not the solution to start with. The catalogue contains several solutions where it is documented how the price comes from the ERP.

The order and the finance function

The purpose of the integration is getting orders, items and stock to line up between the storefront and the ERP. That is the value to verify.

Because there is an iPaaS layer in the middle, there is a place outside both the storefront and Business Central where an order can sit. Agree who monitors it and what the alert triggers.

VAT is decided by Visualsoft. If you sell beyond the United Kingdom, both the VAT setup and post-Brexit customs have to be reviewed concretely, and that is a larger question than the integration.

Who the solution fits

The solution can fit a British consumer store that wants platform and marketing work from the same vendor and already runs Business Central. If that description is right, Visualsoft's model is a real advantage: there is one party with an interest in revenue growing.

It also fits if you already use Patchworks for other integrations. Then the ERP link is one more flow in a platform you know, and the risk from the missing documentation becomes smaller.

The solution does not fit outside the United Kingdom, it does not fit business selling with agreed prices, and it does not fit if you want to own your platform and your marketing yourselves. All three are real reservations and not small ones.

What to settle before you decide

Ask to have the commercial model written out. Payment by results can be an advantage or an expensive lock-in depending on how it is worded, and it should be calculated over three years like everything else in the catalogue.

Ask for a technical description of the Patchworks flow between Visualsoft and Business Central, and ask for a named reference customer on that combination specifically. That is the largest gap in our research.

Our large scenario stands as not served, and the medium one carries low confidence. We cannot defend pricing an international setup on this solution with the foundation we have.
